Every year I like to take the time to reflect on the wedding images I took and put together a collection of my best of wedding photography. Looking back, what an incredible year of connection it was! Sifting through 26 wedding’s worth of images, I found myself both in tears and laughing out loud. In both cases my responses were to moments of incredible joy and meaningful connection.
As is usual for me I left out inanimate objects, though I must say some of the flowers and design I saw this year were unbelievable. While those things are lovely and important somewhat, wedding photography to me is mostly about feeling, about moments, about sharing a legacy with generations to come, and that lasting legacy is mostly made and found in human to human connection. At least for me, when I look through the images of my family or when I consider imagery from my personal life I want to see touch, laughter, that crooked smile, expression of wonder, those in-between frames that makeup the stories of our lives. Mostly, I want to feel, and I hope you do too. So these photographs are primarily a collection of moments and exchanges between people that reflect their love, what they value, and an emotional insight into how these days unfolded. I’ve decided to arrange them in a somewhat chronological order so that the flow of the series might more easily take you there, into imagination of what a wedding day might have felt like for some of these people, and so that you can share in all the feels too.
To those of you who invited me into these sacred experiences of yours, I am deeply grateful. What a gift it is to behold over and over again that which gives our lives meaning: love. I am honored to have shared connection with all of you, to have gotten to know you through the intimate process of wedding photography, and for our shared appreciation for each other. Here’s to you!
